It is not suitable for travelers with heart conditions or other serious medical problems.
This trail must be respected. Prepare well and you will have a great time!
Use an experienced guide as visitors have gotten lost due to the trail not being marked.
Even if you know the trail, we recommend that you use a guide. Do not go alone. Many times the forks change and can mislead people who have climbed before.
What to Bring:
Sufficient water (1.5 - 2 liters per day per person)
Trekking boots (see extra point)
Clothes for cold because temperatures at the top can reach below zero (0ºC / 32ºF),
Waterproof
Bug repellent (optional)
Headlamp and flashlight.
A cane (optional)
Extra note:
For long and difficult trails like this we recommend that you wear trekking boots. Make sure you use them several times BEFORE you try to climb Volcán Barú it is very unpleasant when you get blisters on the way and you have to climb 5 km more!
There are spots on the trail where there is litter, usually plastic water bottles, food cans, and energy drink cans. Make an effort to keep the trail clean and be sure to “Leave No Trace” and leave with what you entered.
